Imagine reality / Specific Inventory will present the artworks of Véronique Bourgoin, Joel Leick and Matt Lipps. This presentation could be considered as a second part of the collaboration between three artists after the exhibition Specific Inventory held in Paris in 2014 in the framework of Paris Photo.

This group show, which takes place in the program of RAY 2015, offers three different outlooks and practices of the contemporary photography.

Véronique Bourgoin (Fr - Lives and works in Montreuil, France)
Les labyrinthes du temps

?The color of an infinity which is as much in the man as except him?. (Annie Le Brun)

Les labyrinthes du temps in which each work opens new spaces, wherein ?matter? and ?black holes? meet up with their trajectories, creating temporal distortion, immersing the visitor in a paradoxical situation between visionary dreams and interior chaos. The universe where altered image, overexposed by ?too much? light can disappear in an instant, leaving a sparkling trace behind it, as if something persisted inside. Our memory is stored in ?clouds?, black screens, new magical mirrors, inciting images of what we'd like to be, all the information we'd like to know, the mirror Alice crosses, the water of the Styx in which Narcissus seeks his reflection, an immaterial flow where saturation of images and information also provoke their erasure.

Joel Leick (Fr - Lives and works in Paris)

In 2007, Joël Leick began photographing the industrial sites of Fond-de-Gras and the Lasauvage pit head. Without the slightest nostalgia, the artist crisscrosses these abandoned places listening to their history and delivers a series that is both modest and sensitive. Locomotives, tanks, rails, baskets are isolated by the lens then made monumental, letting a strange and unsuspected beauty be glimpsed. Joël Leick?s photographic works have subsequently integrated other techniques such as the collage, contrasting artificial elements from daily life by using natural settings photographed by the artist.


Matt Lipps (US - Lives and works in San Francisco)
Library Serie

For the Library, launched in 2013, the American photographer Matt Lipps took his inspiration from a set of 17 thematic works, Library of Photography, published between 1970 and 1972 compiling thousands of black and white photos principally taken from the archives of Life Magazine. Once selected, the artist places them individually on glass shelves arranged on a backdrop of a 35mm negative, recolored and heavily saturated, then photographs the whole.
